In the past, service strategy and sourcing of services where primarily based on sourcing a set of "tower" specific set of services. IT services have evolved to a XaaS (everything as a service) model, however many companies do not view their offerings in the same way.

There are several differing definitions and related capabilities when it comes to Supplier Management. The function of defining, procuring, managing  contracts and suppliers over the years has evolved from a pure procurement function to an integrated vendor management organizational function (VMO).
